In an uninspiring Japanese Grand Prix, Hakkinen secured his second consecutive World  Championship by taking the  chequered flag. Schumacher  2nd with Irvine 3rd.
 Ferrari takes the Constructor's title after Coulthard suffered a spin which damaged his
nose cone.
 The cone was replaced but he retired a few laps later, having earlier
 helped to hold up Irvine behind him. Full report
